Whiteness seen in religious spaces is not only about the individual relationship with a certain faith or practice, but about a system of power in which living comfortably in a faith surrounded by whiteness is seen as the ordinary. Recent racialization in christian denominations have become more and more prevalent as communities strongly form their identities surrounding whiteness. While dating back to before colonization, white people and European groups used their whiteness in terms of religion as a source of power to extend some sort of control over non white groups throughout the world. We can still see actions with the intent of spreading white nationalism, or a sense of white superiority onto traditionally non-christian or non-white groups today through mission trips and the expression of christianity as a means for someones racist behavior/attitudes. The very process of describing religious organizations outside of christianity by many is the classification of non white groups. What many percieve to be mere "history" still hinders endless aspects of human life not only in religion, but in free expression, safety and lifestyle.
